Each year Lisbon Regional School honors its outstanding students by nominating them for possible induction into the National Honor Society (NHS). Students in the 11th and 12th grades who meet the National Honor Society criteria—Scholarship, Leadership, Character, and Service—will be offered the privilege of membership.
It is essential to understand that a student does not apply to the National Honor Society but is submits information to the Faculty Council to support his/ her candidacy for membership. The National Honor Society emphasizes that selection to the society is a privilege, not a right.
Initially, students qualify for NHS through scholarship. The minimum G.P.A. for NHS consideration is 3.50 on a 4.00 scale. G.P.A’s are not rounded up.
Academically eligible students provide verifiable information for the three other criteria that the Faculty Council equally weights. The Faculty Council thoroughly reviews all of the information provided by each candidate, as well as faculty evaluation forms to make reliable, equitable selection determinations.
Furthermore, to afford candidates an additional opportunity to provide the Faculty Council with relevant information and perhaps clarify any questions that may arise, each candidate will participate in an interview. Upon completion of the candidacy process, membership determination is made by a majority vote of the Faculty Council.
Nomination, selection, and induction into the Lisbon Regional Honor Society are goals that the professional teaching staff encourages all students to aspire to at Lisbon. Achievement of these goals is a notable accomplishment in which NHS members should take pride for these students exemplify the tenets of National Honor Society—Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and
Character.
A student nominated for the National Honor Society will receive a Candidacy Letter and be invited to attend a mandatory meeting that will review the process.
